Shelby Pease: The Atlanta History Center

June 5, 2019

We met with Shelby Pease, Sales Associate of the Atlanta History Center, on a beautiful sunny afternoon at the Caribou Coffee in Buckhead. We were so excited to learn more about the newly named Atlanta History Center Midtown location. A few weeks ago, we attended a marketing event with Shelby at the Atlanta History Center Midtown location.

When we first walked in, we instantly felt this “cool, historic, city” vibe that we know clients will soon obsess over. This space is unique to other Midtown venues because it truly allows the client to personalize the space however they would like. We can’t wait to be back soon!

DS: What is your go-to snack?

SP: Skinny Pop Aged White Popcorn

DS: Do you have any pets?

SP: Yes, I have a Beagle Lab mix who is 6 years old and only 35 pounds.

DS: What is the most recent show you have binge watched on Netflix?

SP: Blue Bloods. I love crime shows!

DS: Where are you from?

SP: I am from Athens, Georgia. Go Dawgs!

DS: What was your first job?

SP:  I worked at Old Navy. I never went the food beverage side when I was younger because I’d rather get free clothes, Shelby laughs.

DS: What is one thing people typically don’t know about you?

SP: My little sister is adopted from South Korea. She is 11 and we adopted her when she was 9 months old.

DS: How did you meet your husband?

SP: We’re high school sweethearts. Junior year. He actually proposed to me at Cinderella’s Castle in Disney during breakfast!

Awwww, SO sweet! ????
DS: What advice would you give your younger self?

SP: To not fret over little things and to handle things in a better way. You can’t always make everything happen, so some things you have to let go. For example, you can’t control the weather [during a wedding]!

DS: What is your guilty pleasure?

SP: Coffee. I am one of those people that loves the taste of really good coffee. I could have a shot of espresso at 4 in the afternoon and still go to bed tonight. I’m kind of a coffee snob.

DS: What was your favorite class in school?

SP: Science, specifically biology. I always thought I was going to be a nurse and be an OBGYN technician.

DS: Who is your role model?

SP: I would say my mom. My mom and I are really close. Seeing how she raised us is how I want to raise my kids.

DS: What is the most worn item in your wardrobe?

SP: Jeans. If I don’t have an event, I’m in jeans.

DS: What is your favorite way to de-stress?

SP: Diffusers. I have one at home and on my desk.

DS: What is your ideal Friday night?

SP: Going home to sit on the couch and drinking a glass of wine. My husband works for Atlanta United in ticket operations, so it is very rare we are home at the same time on the weekend. My friends say I’m so old because I never want to go out when I have a weekend off!

DS: What is your favorite thing about yourself?

SP: I really like my smile… and my eyes.

We definitely agree, Shelby!
DS: What is one superpower you wish you could have?

SP: To be super chipper right when I wake up in the morning. I’m not a morning person at all unless I know I’m going on vacation that day!

DS: What is the best gift you have ever received?

SP: My wedding ring.

DS: What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?

SP: I was really close with my grandfather, and he died when I was in 5th grade. My dad has always been a pastor and he talked about my grandpa during the wedding. It was really meaningful.

Shelby also shared with us that she was actually married at the Swan House before she even worked for the Atlanta History Center!

LET’S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS

DS: What is your role in the Atlanta History Center Midtown?

SP: I am the only Sales Associate of our Midtown campus, but I also sell for Buckhead.

DS: What type of client does the Atlanta History Center Midtown attract?

SP: I would say the all-day meeting corporate people. There, we can do day-time events whereas Buckhead can’t. It’s still so new, so the space is still growing into other events like weddings and rehearsal dinners. Its capacity is 120 guests.

DS: How is the Atlanta History Center Midtown location different than other event venues in Midtown?

SP: We offer an upper and lower lawn that is completely gated. People feel safe there. It’s a spacious, historic space. And you’re getting four event spaces in one; it’s very versatile.

DS: What is one thing you want potential clients to know about the Atlanta History Center Midtown location?

SP: That we do events. I’ve been walking around door by door to market and 95% of people don’t know that it is an event space!

DS: What is your most commonly asked question by brides?

SP: What have other people done? It’s hard to say that because when I came on for the Atlanta History Center Midtown, there were only 5 events that were held at the Midtown location.

DS: What is your one piece of advice for newlyweds?

SP: To not pay attention to everyone else’s opinions. The only thing that matters is what the bride and groom want.

DS: What is your favorite part of the wedding day?

SP: Seeing the bride enter the wedding and seeing the groom’s face. Also, I love when the bride and groom see the reception space for the first time. It was one of my favorite parts of my wedding as well!
